The Blue and Gray was formed in
2006 as a different kind of Living History and Reenactment group. We
were each looking for a group that wasn't a dictatorship, where everyone
ALWAYS had a say and was listened to. A group where all events and
issues were voted on by the group and majority ruled, not just the President
or the Captain or a Commander. A group where a private and the female
living historian had as much say as a Sergeant. Where the Union and
Confederates could join together to teach our history.
We all belonged to other groups and were happy, but didn't find what we were
ultimately looking for, so we formed our own.
We have a Board of Directors that handles the "business end" of the unit and
we have a command structure to handle the military protocol. No
positions are life positions. Our Captain and Board of Directors are voted
on every year.
We look at our members as extended family, and as such, realize that not
everyone will have the same agenda or ideals. We try to work together,
all we ask is that you are truthful and upfront. If you are having a
problem, tell someone so that the problem can be solved or an agreement can be
made. If you are unhappy and want to leave the unit- Don't go behind
others backs, be upfront and you will be wished well on your future
endeavors. This is a hobby, so treat it as such.
Questions we get asked frequently: Are we allowed to belong to other groups?
Yes, we have no problem with members belonging to other groups.
Do I have to attend all or a minimum of the events to stay a member in
good standing?
No, As long as your dues and insurance are paid you are in good standing.
We understand that Family and Work come before your hobby.
